When fall rolls around, the craving for warm, comforting desserts kicks in.
Apple pie has always been a favorite, but I wanted to try something lighter, easier, and with a twist.
That’s when the viral rice paper recipes caught my eye. The idea of using rice paper as a base for a dessert sounded intriguing, and I couldn’t wait to experiment with it.
Enter the Rice Paper Apple Pie—a delightful treat that’s crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and bursting with classic fall flavors.
Unlike traditional apple pies, this version skips the buttery crust, making it a much lighter dessert without compromising on taste.
It’s a single-serve dessert that’s perfect for those cozy evenings when you want something sweet but not overly heavy.
Plus, it’s super easy to make, even if you’re not a baking pro. Wanna take your turn at the rice paper trend? Then this recipe is a must-try!
Let’s get baking!

- 100 ml milk of your choice
- Splash of vanilla
- 1 tbsp honey | maple syrup | sugar
For the apple filling:
- 2 small-medium apples, diced
- 1 tbsp butter (or coconut oil for a lighter option)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Salt
- Vanilla powder | Splash of vanilla *
Instructions
1. Prepare the Apple Filling:
Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla powder, lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
2. Prepare the Rice Paper:
In a large, shallow bowl, mix the milk eggs, vanilla and honey. Dip one sheet of rice paper into the water for a few seconds until it softens. Place it on a plate. Repeat with the second and third sheets, layering them on top of each other.*
3. Assemble the Pie:
Place half of the stewed apples in the center of the soaked rice paper..
4. Fold the Rice Paper:
Fold all four sides of the rice paper over the apple filling to form a sealed square or rectangle.
5. Bake the Pie:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Place the wrapped pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the rice paper turns golden and crisp.
Notes
- Use a large, shallow bowl for soaking the rice paper to avoid breaking them.
- Make sure to work quickly once the rice paper is softened, as it can tear easily.
